Annual Sponsored Walk Returns to Stamford Endowed Schools
On Friday 1st July 2022 Stamford School and Stamford High School pupils took part in their annual sponsored walk raising money for Macmillan Cancer and Wear it Pink charities. The return of this annual event saw the senior schools come together with almost 800 pupils embarking on the 15km walk. The route took pupils from Stamford using the Jurassic Way Bridal Path, along the River Welland towards Tinwell. As pupils reached the village, they headed towards Tinwell Lodge Farm and on to the Scout camp base at Shacklewell Spinney where a well-earned rest stop and lunch was waiting.Staff from across the schools were out in force marshalling and signposting the course, as well as numerous intrepid walkers trying to keep pace with their sprightlier charges. Andy Murphy, Senior Deputy Head of SHS who organised the event, commented: “Our school sponsored walk is one of my favourite days in the school calendar. It is such a fabulous event where we see the senior schools coming together in force to raise money for very worthy charities. The sun shone on us, as it always does, and to see so many smiling faces at the end was just marvellous. Planning is already in full swing for next year and I think we can go further, so watch this space!”Pupils and staff were treated to ice creams and cold drinks when they arrived back to school, with the team of school dogs who accompanied the walkers already cooler from a dip in the Welland on route home.
