Achievements in Gymnastics at Stamford Junior School
Stamford Junior School has recently hosted the Independent Schools National 2 piece championships, a record entry of 80 teams from across the country were taking part, as well as, teams from Holland and Belgium. SJS entered 3 teams: U9, U10 and U11. The U10s were the first to perform and were successful in showcasing new skills to finish in 10th place. For many of the U9s, it was their first national competition, but they fought off the nerves to finish in an amazing 3rd place. Last up was the U11 team, who performed with great confidence to finish in a fantastic 2nd place. Individual honours were awarded to Abigail and Anna, who both finished 6th in their respective age categories. The Under 11 team then had 2 weeks to polish additional routines ready for the IAPS National Championships in Kent. They performed a brand new Group Routine, as well as voluntary floor routines, a set floor routine and both set and voluntary vaults. They looked confident throughout the competition, which was of an exceptionally high standard. Their efforts were rewarded with very well deserved medals for both their team position and their group routine. A brilliant result and a just reward for their hard work.
